Infinite Prog Power from Coheed and Cambria’s The Infinite Arc Tour
Van Andel Arena | Grand Rapids, MI | June 6, 2025
Fans started filling out Van Andel Arena on June 6th in anticipation for Coheed and Cambria’s The Infinite Arc Tour—The Grand Rapids, MI date was one of the final shows of the month-long tour which featured support from progressive metal bands Mastodon and Periphery.
Periphery started with a strong and dynamic track, "Reptile," which was met with a wall of screams from fans. Playing only two more songs for the evening, "Wildfire" and "Atropos," the band still ended their set after more than 30 minutes. With their intricate instrumentals, powerful vocals, and signature prog sound, Periphery was the perfect band to open for this tour.
Mastodon followed and continued to raise the energy, opening with their 2014 track "Tread Lightly." The Atlanta band played a huge 15-song set with selections from throughout their entire catalog, like "Crystal Skull" from their 2004 album Leviathan and "Black Tongue" from 2011’s The Hunter. Mastodon brought a different sound to the stage, but every break in the music was met with cheers and applause. Their production featured intense and stunning visuals as the band moved around the whole stage, which really got the crowd going by the time they closed the set out with their most played song, "Blood and Thunder."
As Coheed and Cambria took the the stage one by one, frontman Claudio Sanchez appeared wearing a pink wig, which only made it about one song before it ended up on the mic stand and guitar headstock. Coming out to the powerful and moving "Yesterday’s Lost" felt like a warm welcome from the band, which then seamlessly transitioned into "Goodbye, Sunshine” (the first two songs off their recently released album The Father of Make Believe). Soon after, a giant inflatable punk skull appeared behind them on stage followed by even more visuals on screen, with the skull also changing throughout the set. Coheed showcased several tracks from The Father of Make Believe but did not limit the set to only recent material, going all the way back to 2002’s "Everything's Evil," “A Favor House Atlantic” (featuring Periphery vocalist Spencer Sotelo), and fan favorite “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3.” They ended their set and walked off stage only to reappear for a three-song encore, closing out the evening out with their most popular song "Welcome Home."
The Infinite Arc Tour has come to an end, but Coheed and Cambria will be back in the US later this summer on a new headlining tour featuring Taking Back Sunday and Foxing. Tour dates and tickets can be found here.
